Turkish startup Myth AI has developed a generative AI tool for the fashion sector by simplifying pattern-making processes, fostering efficiency, and curbing waste. This move addresses the industry’s significant waste output, estimated at a staggering 92 million tonnes of textile waste annually. The AI-generated designs reduce the time required for crafting personalised designs, thereby cutting down on unsalable inventory and minimising waste. Additionally, the tool enables digital material experimentation before the final physical production of garments.

Globally, the garment and footwear industry accounts for 8 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to 20 per cent of global wastewater. Traditionally, fashion houses relied on fabric suppliers, often receiving designs in the form of swatches and prototypes, leading to excessive waste if designs were rejected. This practice contributes to the annual 92 tonnes of waste. If not addressed, fashion waste could escalate to a staggering 134 million tonnes by the decade’s end.
